MGA Bonnet 1600, with internal panel + captive nuts, Lightweight

Application:    This Bonnet is a direct replacement panel for the original Bonnet, but this is specifically made for racing or track days etc to save weight on the car.

 

Captive Nuts:    At the rear there are six 6mm captive nuts for the hinges, at the front there is a 3/8” AF threaded plate to take the locking pin and three 5mm captive nuts bonded in to take the safety catch.

 

Durability:    This panel is manufactured for racing or track days only, it has one full layer of matting with an additional strip applied on areas for the attachment points or where holes need to drilled.

 

Weight:    The rule of thumb is lightweight panels save approximately one third in weight against the road use version.  This panel weighs approx 5-6 kgs.

 

Bolt Holes:    We don’t pre-drill any bolt holes, it is far better to line the panel up and drill the holes where needed, also any holes in the panel make it more fragile and susceptible to damage in transit.  Bolt holes are marked in the panel which can be used as a guide. Tip: drill elongated holes to give room for adjustment when fitting.

 

Fitting:        Transfer over all existing fitting attachments and fit as per the original Bonnet.

 

Paint Prep:    Firstly, sand the panel down roughly, then apply primer/filler – a rough sand down will ensure the primer/filler keys well.  Sand down again to a smooth finish and finally apply top coat, either Cellulose or Two Pack can be used.
